Manufacturing
Discrete and process manufacturing — BOMs and formulas, production and batch orders, shop floor, product cost controlling, yield, eBR, scheduling, OEE and configurator.
Available with the Manufacturing module. Shop-floor confirmation is a separate right (Shop Floor Operator role).
Process manufacturing (formulas & batches)
Process / recipe manufacturing for food, beverage, chemicals and similar industries — alongside discrete BOMs and MOs.
Formulas / recipes (/manufacturing/formulas)
Versioned formula master for a finished product:
- Batch size, expected yield % (plus standard loss), and over-receipt tolerance % (default 0; a batch cannot be received above planned quantity times one plus this percent)
- Ingredients with fixed qty, % of batch, or % of output; scrap %; optional scale required and potency basis %
- Co-products and by-products with cost share
- Catch-weight and potency-controlled flags on the formula
- Process steps (instructions, duration, critical, requires sign-off / weigh) for the electronic batch record
Activate a draft version to make it the live recipe for new batches. A version becomes active or obsolete only through that action.
Process batches (/manufacturing/batches) — BAT
Statuses draft → planned → released → in_progress → completed | cancelled.
- Create from an active formula: batch qty, warehouse, lot, vessel/tank.
- Plan: explode ingredients (scaled + scrap), finished + co/by outputs, eBR steps; open the batch record.
- Release to the floor.
- Issue ingredients: stock decrease; optional weight (catch-weight) and potency % (issues potency-adjusted quantity when strength differs from basis).
- eBR steps: start / complete with optional signature; critical steps cannot be skipped; deviations logged on the record.
- Receive finished goods and co/by-products (catch-weight / potency optional). Received quantity cannot exceed planned quantity plus the formula’s over-receipt tolerance. Actual yield % vs expected is calculated. The batch row is locked for the receipt.
- Complete: closes the electronic batch record with sign-off.
The batch record is a chronological eBR lite: weighs, issues, receives, step events, sign-offs and notes.
Bills of Materials (/manufacturing/boms)
Multi-level BOMs per product with versions, component quantities, scrap %, backflush flags (auto-issue on receipt), phantom assemblies and by-products. Alternative BOMs per variant. The default version (newest active version effective on today, else any active, else the latest version of the first active BOM) is what production orders and MRP explode; MRP reports BOM cycles instead of looping. Activating a version records a change note, released at/by, rolls up standard cost, and makes every other version of that BOM obsolete. Only one version stays active. Version status cannot be set on create or update; activation is the only status change. The BOM row is locked for the activation.
Engineering changes (/manufacturing/engineering-changes) — ECO
Mid-market PLM change control for BOMs. Statuses draft → submitted → approved → implemented (or rejected / cancelled).
- Create an ECO on a finished product with a reason and one or more change lines (add/remove/qty change component, or activate an existing draft BOM version).
- Submit for approval, then Approve / Reject. The person who submitted the change cannot approve it while Approve an engineering change you submitted is on under Segregation of Duties (on by default). A blank submitter or approver is not blocked. A company can turn the rule off. Approve and implement lock the change.
- Implement copies the current BOM into a new draft version, applies the line deltas, and (by default) activates it with the proposed effective date.
Use this instead of silently editing the live BOM when drawings or structure must go through review.
Engineering documents (/manufacturing/engineering-documents)
Product-linked drawings, specifications, work instructions and material certificates (file upload + revision). Optionally tie a document to a BOM version or ECO.
Routings (/manufacturing/routings)
Ordered operations with work center, setup and run times, labour, and subcontract steps (component sent to a supplier via PO).
Work Centers (/manufacturing/work-centers)
Machines/lines/cells with capacity (hours per day, shifts) and hourly cost rates used for scheduling and costing.
Production Orders (/manufacturing/orders) — MO
Statuses draft → planned → released → in_progress → completed | cancelled. Types: manufacture, disassemble, subcontract.
- Plan: product, quantity, BOM/routing version, due date, warehouse(s); components exploded; MRP or a sales order can create it. MRP proposes orders level by level from the default BOM version, offsets the start by routing time (or the product lead time) and counts unissued components of open orders as demand — see MRP planning.
- Release: opens an electronic traveler (
TRV); first operation becomes ready on the shop floor. - Issue materials: decrease movements from the component warehouse (lots/serials picked; backflush issues automatically at operation confirm and/or receipt).
- Confirm operations: immutable confirmation ledger with good/scrap/rework qty, labor vs machine hours, scrap/rework reason codes, optional sign-off, WIP lot, and backflush consumptions. Good quantity plus scrap on an operation cannot exceed the order quantity still open on that operation. Output scrap, together with quantity already confirmed and not yet received and quantity already received, cannot exceed the order quantity. Rework is recorded separately and does not use that cap. Consumed lots write operation-level genealogy into lot lineage.
- Receive production: increase finished goods (and co/by-products); clears WIP value; closes the traveler on completion.
- Complete.
Schedule (/manufacturing/schedule)
Shop-floor Gantt by work center — drag a production order to reschedule.
- Default view (infinite capacity): each order walks forward on its own timeline using work-center hours per day; overlapping load on the same work center is summed and overload days are highlighted on operation bars and in the overload list.
- Finite schedule (constraint APS): preview or apply a forward schedule where open orders compete for the same work-center hours (weekends skipped, machine downtime deducted). Orders late vs due date are flagged; apply updates planned start on production orders. This is mid-market finite loading — not a full supply-chain optimizer (no genetic/multi-plant solver).
Shop Floor (/manufacturing/shop-floor)
MES tablet for operators (Shop Floor Operator role):
- Barcode / RF lookup — scan MO code, product barcode or GS1 to focus ready operations and carry lot
- Start an operation (clock + traveler entry)
- Confirm with good qty, labor/machine hours, scrap qty + reason code, WIP/output lot, signature
- Backflush and genealogy recorded on each confirmation
WIP valuation (/manufacturing/wip)
Real-time WIP $ by open MO: issued materials + confirmed labor/overhead − share already received to FG. Filter by work center; totals refresh as the floor confirms and receives.
Cost estimates (/manufacturing/cost-estimates) — CK
Standard cost rolls by BOM version (optional routing), similar to CK11N/CK24:
- Create an estimate for a product + BOM version (lot size, optional routing).
- Calculate material (component standard costs), labor and overhead from work-center rates.
- Mark, then Release to standard — writes BOM version standard material/labor/overhead and updates
product.standard_cost.
Product costing (/manufacturing/costing)
Production variances & settlement to FI
On each MO, Recalculate costs splits variances into:
- Material: price / quantity / usage
- Labor: rate / efficiency
- Overhead: spending / efficiency
Confirming a subcontract operation accrues the service cost: WIP is debited and subcontract clearing is credited. Settle to FI then clears WIP into finished goods at standard. The supplier invoice debits subcontract clearing (not purchase expense); a price difference posts to production variance. The service cost is in inventory and profit and loss once, and clearing is zero after the invoice.
When the MO is completed, Settle to FI (KO) clears WIP, posts finished goods at standard, and posts variance accounts (system keys production_variance_*, wip_inventory). The person who confirmed an operation or received output on that order cannot settle it while Settle a production order you confirmed or received is on under Segregation of Duties (on by default). Release and confirm by the same person stay allowed. A company can turn the rule off. Someone who only started the operation, and an order with no confirmer or receiver, is not blocked. Settlements are listed on Product costing.
Material ledger / actual costing
Optional company flag Actual costing. Open a fiscal month, Run actual costing (MLR) for period actual unit costs (legal / group / profit valuations, multi-currency). The period is locked for the run. A second run on an open period reverses the previous revaluation and leaves one active run. Full cockpit — valuation config, step progress, price browser — lives under Finance → Material Ledger. This screen keeps enable/run/close and links to Finance.
Electronic traveler
Each released MO gets a traveler (TRV) with chronological entries (open, start, confirm, scrap, receive, close). Available via GET /api/v1/manufacturing/production_orders/:id/traveler. Confirmation history: .../confirmations.
Scrap / rework codes
Manufacturing disposition reasons (seedable catalog) used on confirm and scrap — separate from OEE downtime codes.
OEE & Downtime (/manufacturing/oee)
Availability × Performance × Quality per work center and period. Good/scrap prefer confirmation ledger timestamps; downtime codes and Pareto unchanged.
Configurator (/manufacturing/configurator)
Option groups and rules that change BOM components and add cost/price when a configured product is quoted or ordered — configure-to-order from Sales.
